You can go home again.
My mother gave me (and gives me) many things, but one of the greatest gifts Blanche (yes, that would be the blanche of one day blanche birthed a mad, bad bibliophile) gave me is my love of reading. Though she's not particularly a voracious reader herself (she really likes a good book about our people though, really any book about our people), my mother knew that books would bestow empathy and imagination. She probably read me Madeline 3000 times (a conservative figure.) I look forward to sitting with her and our girlfriends (her granddaughters, my nieces, and Teepee, of course), and reading Madeline and the Cats of Rome by John Bemelmans Marciano, grandson of Ludwig, and resident of...Brooklyn.

When i left home for good, my mom bought me a Madeline doll to remind me of my girlhood. I've always loved her and have been thinking about recreating her hat for myself.
We just commented on each other's blogs simultaneously. Too wonderful.
